John Murphy is a Florida Supreme Court Circuit Court Certified Mediator with forty-eight years of experience in the legal profession, bringing a unique perspective to the mediation process.
He graduated from Villanova University in 1974 with a Bachelor’s degree and earned his Juris Doctor from Stetson University College of Law in 1977. That same year, he was admitted to The Florida Bar and later became a member of the New York Bar in 1986.
Before transitioning to mediation, Mr. Murphy served as a Circuit Judge in Broward County, Florida, for more than 20 years. During his judicial career, he presided over both civil and criminal trial divisions. In the civil division, he was assigned to the extended trial unit, where he handled complex litigation including product liability cases (tobacco and asbestos), insurance, property damage, medical malpractice, and personal injury matters. During his time on the bench, Mr. Murphy presided over hundreds of jury trials including numerous first degree murder cases.
Prior to his judicial service, Mr. Murphy practiced law as a civil attorney for over 20 years. His work included representing lenders in real estate transactions and foreclosures, as well as handling construction litigation disputes.
Drawing on his combined experience as a lawyer and judge, Mr. Murphy now offers mediation services with an informed, balanced, and practical approach to conflict resolution.
